What's new about abCVS

Improved settings panel: now it is possible to avoid specifying the CVSROOT on the command line. In that case, cvs.exe will default to the CVSROOT that was used in the latest checkout command.
Added support for the :sspi: protocol.

Removed cvsgui protocol support, as it created more problems than benefits. In particular, abCVS crashed the IDE while attempting to connect via :pserver:. cvsgui support might be restored in a future version if needed, but will be made optional.
SECURITY WARNING: To avoid the need for patching cvs.exe, with the :pserver: method only, the password is now put in clear text on the cvs.exe command line while issueing the Connect (a.k.a. login) command. This is a potential security issue, as a malicious program running under administrative privileges might sniff the password. However, the :pserver: method is not a secure method anyway, so it's just paranoia.

Support for the :ntserver: access method as provided by CVS for NT.
The :pserver: access method now relies on the cvsgui protocol instead of requiring an abcvs-specific patched cvs.exe. Such support is provided by default by CVS for NT. The old mode is no longer supported.
In the Update preview dialog you can now hide up-to-date files and folders.
In the advanced Update dialog a new option "Get clean copy" has been added which is equivalent to "-C" on the command line.

New dialog boxes for advanced Update, Diff and View commands. The new dialogs features:
- a tree-like history graph dialog (non-recursive only);
- an improved tags combo box (both recursive and non-recursive);
- a simplified layout.
Renamed Status [terse] in Status and Status [verbose] in Status & labels in the menus, with unchanged functionality.
Simplified the layout of the abCVS preferences panel.
Added Alternate menus option in the preferences panel.

Added Show differences, Update and Update All buttons to the recursive Update preview dialog.
Fixed a bug in the Undo edit, which made the IDE loose sync with the checkout state, especially if using a non-patched version of cvs.exe.

Fixed a bug that made abCVS display a bogus "Update operation failed" even if the operation were successful. Thanks to Marina and Greg.

Implemented the recursive Update command. This new command supports the innovative Preview feature that gives you information about the effects of Update without performing it. The Preview feature replaces the recursive Status dialog, which has been removed. This change is consistent with the fact that the dialog is now implemented as a cvs -n update instead of a cvs status. In this release, the Preview feature is available only for recursive Update, but will be extended in the future to non-recursive Update too.

First implementation of the recursive Status dialog box. The feature is highly promising and will probably be subject to improvement in the next release. Known issues:
- sometimes the dir field is not corrected
- new (added) and removed files are not handled correctly
Minor bug fixes.

Major re-writing in order to allow, in a future release, the implementation of the CVS client protocol without the use of cvs.exe.
Implemented recursive version of "Tag".
During recursive requests, the pathname of the subtree is now displayed relatively to the project root.
Now all recursive requests include the "-R" option on the command line, in case "-R" have been overridden in the .cvsrc file.
Fixed a problem with CR/LF conversion during "Difference" operations. This fix has also impact on "View" requests, whose output now follows the DOS conventions instead of Unix's.
Fixed a bug that used "-kb" during advanced "Update" when the file was not binary.
The "Launch WinCVS" command has been removed until. It may be re-introduced if users demands explicitly for it. A better solution is to add WinCVS as a custom menu item using standard IDE capabilities.
Implemented ByteFlip in the panel, because the IDE was complaining (why?)
Better control of the diagnostic log. Now there are three increasing levels of diagnostic output.

Fixed a nasty bug that made it impossible to use abCVS under Windows NT. Thanks to Ramon Felciano!
Reduced dependencies on the version of shell32.dll and comctl32.dll. Now abCVS gracefully degrades if IE 4.0 or higher is not installed.

Added support for connecting to a remote repository with the :server: and :pserver: methods. In order to use the :pserver: method, however, a specifically patched version of cvs.exe is needed, because the original distribution code is not suited for the non-interactive invocation of the login command. Further details in the FAQ section.
The recursive versions of the Edit, Unedit, Commit and Status requests are now implemented.

Implemented the Tag request for tagging/branching of revision.
Added the Launch WinCVS command if WinCVS is installed.
All request except Synchronize are implemented using the CWPreFileAction and CWPostFileAction callbacks, which is the recommended way in CW Pro 5.
The Synchronize request is now implemented by direct parsing of the CVS files, instead of the output of "cvs status". The request does no longer notifies the user if a document has been modified, because Synchronize is called automatically from IDE at times when this feature cannot be accomplished. The Status request will be improved in the future to reproduce that functionality.
The recursive functions (which are not yet implemented) are no longer displayed in the VCS menu. Of course, they will re-appear as soon as they will be implemented.
